Gašper Beguš studies how language emerges across human, animal, and artificial intelligence. An Associate Professor of Linguistics at UC Berkeley and Linguistics Lead on Project CETI, he combines philology, interpretable AI, neuroscience, and marine biology to uncover hidden structures in communication. He discovered a previously unknown dimension of sperm-whale communication—vowel-like sound patterns—and is now investigating comparable structure in orcas.
