Christian Rüegg is Director of the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), a position he has held since 2020. He is also Professor of Physics at the University of Geneva.

A condensed matter physicist, his research focuses on quantum phenomena in magnetism, using advanced neutron and muon techniques. Prior to becoming Director, he led the Laboratory for Neutron Scattering and Imaging and later headed the research division for Neutrons and Muons at PSI.

Dr. Rüegg earned his PhD in Physics from ETH Zurich and conducted research at the London Centre for Nanotechnology at University College London. His work has been recognized with several awards, including a European Research Council (ERC) Consolidator Grant.
