Carl Öhman is Associate Professor of Political Science at Uppsala University and a research communicator working at the intersection of artificial intelligence and social theory. He is the author of The Afterlife of Data (University of Chicago Press, 2024), which was recognised among the year’s best books by Nature, The Guardian, and The Economist. His work has reached a broad global audience through international media, including The New York Times, BBC, and NPR, as well as through public lectures and keynote talks. He has received the Swedish Research Grand Prix for research communication, alongside academic distinctions such as the Oscar Prize and the Scopus Early Career Researcher Award. Across his work, he focuses on making complex questions about technology, ethics, and society accessible and relevant to wider audiences.
