Asako Sugimoto

Asako Sugimoto is Executive Vice President for Research at Tohoku University and Professor at the Graduate School of Life Sciences. She previously served as Dean of the Graduate School of Life Sciences (2019–2023).

Her research focuses on developmental biology, integrating molecular and cellular approaches to understand fundamental biological processes. Prior to her current roles, she was a Team Leader at RIKEN’s Center for Developmental Biology and held an Assistant Professorship at the University of Tokyo, following postdoctoral training at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.

Dr. Sugimoto earned her PhD in Biophysics and Biochemistry from the University of Tokyo.
