Alexander Schmitt

As Chief Procurement Officer of PowerCo SE since November 2025, Alexander Schmitt leads the company’s procurement strategy along the full battery value chain, building resilient supplier ecosystems and embedding sustainability and compliance to enable the industrialization of battery technology “made in Europe”. 

Before joining PowerCo, he drove one of the most significant commercial transformations at mining company Anglo American by shifting the organization toward a proactive marketing and trading model that generated US$5–7 billion in value. He also held full P&L accountability for a US$5–6 billion base metals business, achieving a sixfold EBIT increase over six years. 

Earlier, he spent twelve years with Boston Consulting Group, advising global clients on strategy, supply chain, and transformation across industries. 

Alexander holds a PhD in Economic Science from WHU, a joint Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and Business Administration from TU Darmstadt, and studied Mechanical Engineering at École Centrale de Lyon.
