2022 2022 Winner Project | Engage Science Engagement (Falling Walls Engage)

“Heroes of the planet” is a project consisting of educational content to teach kids of 9 to 12 years old about Climate Change. The course consists of animated videos telling stories with a main character (a child named Maywa) and the classical elements (earth, fire, water, wind) as secondary characters and guides through the journey. We have also developed the ‘evil’ twins of the elements, and the big villain is climate change. In parallel with the short storytelling capsules, there are lessons that focus on the themes seen in the story, with theory videos and activities listed in the teacher’s guide.

At the end of the course, the kids have to propose their own projects, with the goal of inspiring them to change habits and implement them in their environments. By design, the course can be taught virtually or in-person.

We have created a six-month long curriculum and piloted the program with 150 kids at the end of 2021 and are currently on the way to teaching 300 kids this year. We have also developed an in-person kit with experiments to complement the curricula, to be adopted when teaching in-person.
