Dr. Tammy Ma is the Lead for the Inertial Fusion Energy (IFE) Initiative at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the U.S. She is a member of the team that achieved fusion ignition in December 2022 at the National Ignition Facility, demonstrating more energy from fusion than the laser energy used to drive it, for the first time in history. Last year, Tammy chaired the U.S. Department of Energy’s Basic Research Needs Workshop and Report in IFE, and was a co-author of the 2023 German Memorandum on Inertial Fusion Energy. Tammy has received numerous honors and awards, including the Presidential Early Career Award for Science and Engineering, and is a Fellow of the American Physical Society.
