Stefanie Haase
Stefanie Haase is the leader of the pelagic working group at the Thünen Institute of Baltic Sea Fisheries in Rostock, Germany and holds a PhD in fisheries Science. Stefanie’s work focuses on the ecology of small pelagics, mainly sprat and herring, in the Baltic Sea. She is the cruise leader on a research vessel of the annual, four-week long survey to estimate the abundance of herring and sprat in the Baltic Sea. Afterwards, she participates in the stock assessment of these species to determine and recommend sustainable catch levels. Stefanie is passionate about making her research accessible to the public by writing blog posts, giving talks, and tweeting. She is also mentoring a group of five female students about a career in science.
