Selmin Çalışkan is a Human Rights Advocate with more than 30 years of experience in activism, advocacy and international organisations. Formerly, she was the Director of Institutional Relations at the Berlin office of the Open Society Foundations, as well as the Secretary General for Amnesty International Germany. She has also worked for organisations such as the European Women’s Lobby in Brussels, Medica Mondiale, the German Society for International Cooperation in Kabul and Diakonie. For the women’s rights organisation Medica Mondiale, she led the international advocacy and networking work of women’s rights activists in Afghanistan, Liberia, Kosovo and the Democratic Republic of Congo. In the 1990s, she also helped to set up the migrant women’s meeting platform “Gülistan” and the girls’ meeting platform “Azade” in Bonn, where she advised women and girls with migration/refugee biographies, and advocated for their rights with political decision-makers.
