Nico Blüthgen studied biology in Marburg, Würzburg, Duke University and Bonn. His dissertation investigated ant-plant interactions in Australia. As a postdoc in Würzburg, he studied various rainforest insects in Borneo, as well as grasslands and forests in Germany. Since 2011, Blüthgen has been a professor for ‘ecological networks’ in Darmstadt, where his lab investigates various topics related to the ecology, physiology and diversity of insects, their interactions and ecosystem functions.
