Neuraura has developed a novel way of brain monitoring using microsensors that intercept and read signals between brain cells. The technology could one day be used to treat Parkinson’s disease, epilepsy, and other neurological diseases. For many epileptic patients, drug treatments do not work, which is why patients turn to brain surgery. However, this procedure is currently underutilised, also due to inadequate brain data. Existing brain monitoring systems which deliver such data mostly require invasive procedures and extensive hospitalisation. When implanted in the brain, Neuraura’s chip records high-resolution signals for weeks at a time, at a much higher resolution than any existing technology while also being less invasive.Neuraura’s technology can thus safely collect, save, and transmit live recordings while allowing patients to return home sooner, which improves patient outcomes and reduces healthcare costs. By providing more adequate brain data, the technology could not only help doctors diagnose and treat people with neurological conditions, but also significantly advance our general understanding of cognitive functions, like learning, memory, and simply what makes us human.
