Marcel Prax

Head of Laboratory of the Section “Microbiological Safety” Marcel Prax studied Biology followed by a PhD in microbiology. Since 2015, he is head of laboratory of the section “microbiological safety” at the Paul-Ehrlich-Institute. He is particularly interested in the characterization of bacterial strains and their physiological behavior in blood components. He has been involved in the establishment of bacterial reference strains for both platelet and red blood cell concentrates and coordinates international studies including Mexico to develop strategies that can be applied to increase the safety of blood transfusion worldwide.
