Lining Yao is the Cooper-Siegel Associate Professor at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), directing the Morphing Matter Lab. Her research focuses on sustainable design using active and morphing materials, computational design, and fabrication pipelines. She has published in top ACM conferences, with cover stories in Nature, Science Advances, and Advanced Materials Technologies. Featured in major media outlets, she received her Ph.D. from MIT Media Lab in 2017. Co-founder of MorphingMatter4Girls, she’s a Wired UK fellow, UN instructor, CMU Provost’s Fellow, and NSF CAREER Award recipient.
