Joël Mesot, Jury Chair 2020-2021, Engineering & Technology

Joël Mesot studied physics at ETH Zurich and obtained a doctorate in solid-state physics in 1992. In 1995, he was awarded the SPS (Swiss Physical Society) IBM Prize and in 2002 the ETH Zurich Latsis Prize. After residing in France (Institut Laue-Langevin, Grenoble) and the USA (Argonne National Laboratory, Chicago), he joined the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), where he became Head of the Laboratory for Neutron Scattering in 2004. In 2008 he was appointed Director of the PSI and Professor of physics at ETH. Since 2019 he has been President of ETH Zurich. Joël Mesot is member of several boards, among them the Marcel Benoist Foundation and Switzerland Innovation. Internationally, Joël Mesot is part of the WEF Global Network Advisory Board and a member of the Governing Board of the CREATE center in Singapore.
