Professor Ian Walmsley FRS is a prominent physicist known for his contributions to the field of quantum optics and quantum technologies.
He currently serves as the Provost of Imperial College London, where he has played a key role in advancing research and education in science, engineering, medicine and business.
He is also Chair of Experimental Physics at Imperial and is the chair and co-founder of ORCA Computing.
Professor Walmsley graduated from Imperial College London with first-class honours in physics in 1980 and completed his PhD at the University of Rochester.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Society, the American Physical Society, the Institute of Physics and Optica; of which he was elected President in 2018.
