Helge Goessling examines the physical climate system and its predictability. He started using climate models to study the global water cycle and land-atmosphere interactions during his doctorate at the MPI for Meteorology. Since 2012 at Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI), his focus has been on sea-ice prediction as well as global aspects of climate change, extreme events, Earth's energy balance, and geo-engineering. Since 2022 he has been leading a Helmholtz project in which specific extreme events are simulated in different background climates to better understand the influence of climate change on extremes.
