COST

Material costs are low: we try to focus on cheap, accessible, reusable and sustainable,
Most costs go into logistics, Ekoli runs on volunteers, even the board. Employees will be the biggest cost, when we have them.

IMPACT

In the year and a half since we’ve been actually active, we’ve reached over 1000 children and youngsters from 6 till 18 years old; we’ve taught over 500 teachers and educators; we’ve worked with over 500 people that can be considered underprivileged. Furthermore, we’ve demonstrated that science can be done and understood by anyone and that kids learn science better by doing.

TARGET GROUP

  • Underprivileged groups, reached by collaborating with organisations and schools that work with specific groups, like people who are mentally challenged or kids from difficult socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Teachers, training them to replace their theoretical curriculum with our experience based activities that trigger creativity and curiosity.

PARTNERS

  • ReaGent: DIY biology lab where anyone can research and experiment with biotech
  • Non-profits like Kompas, …
  • Universities & Colleges of Ghent, Antwerp, Brussels, Leuven, Kortrijk & Hasselt
  • Biotech related companies and research centers like Pfizer, VIB & Vliz

KEY LEARNINGS

  • Education needs to engage students actively.
  • Anyone can do and understand science.
  • You’ll find the most impact within the most neglected groups.
