Bygen are on a mission to enable low-cost activated carbon production for the betterment of people and the planet. Due to its unique adsorbent properties, millions of tonnes of activated carbon are used every year for a diverse range of filtering processes, including water treatment, soil remediation, and gold recovery. Currently, the majority of the world’s activated carbon is made from coal and requires extremely high temperatures (around 1000C) for production.
Bygen’s unique technology (called ‘Low-Temperature Activation’) allows us to produce activated carbon at much lower temperatures, while also using renewable agricultural and forestry wastes as feedstocks. As a result, our process is carbon-negative, has significantly reduced CAPEX and OPEX, and improved performance over fossil-fuel based products.
