Barbara Stollberg-Rilinger

Barbara Stollberg-Rilinger is Rector of the Wissenschaftskolleg zu Berlin/Institute for Advanced Study. Until 2021, she held the chair of Early Modern History at the University of Muenster where she was speaker of the collaborative research group “Symbolic communication and social value systems” and of the Excellence Cluster “Religion and Politics”. Her main areas of research include the political culture of the Holy Roman Empire, social and political symbols, metaphors, rituals, and procedures of the Early Modern period, and the history of ideas. Recently, she has published the biography “Maria Theresa. The Habsburg Empress in Her Time”.
