Magdalena carried out her Ph.D. at the University of Warsaw and then moved to Cambridge in 1995 to study the regulative mechanisms of development and spatial patterning in the mouse embryo. In 1997 she started her independent group at the Wellcome Trust/Cancer Research UK Gurdon Institute of Cambridge and became a Fellow in 2001. In 2010, she became a Professor of Mammalian Development and Stem Cell Biology and in 2013 she became a Fellow of the British Academy of Medical Science. Magdalena opened her lab at Caltech in 2019 where she is a Bren Professor of Biology and Biological Engineering.
