Lucy Brown specialises in using creative methods to engage underserved and underrepresented communities, creating meaningful experiences and providing information for advocacy and policy change. Her work includes art-science exhibitions, public workshops, citizen assemblies, app development, and participatory research. Lucy also trains researchers in science communication, public engagement, and equity. She is committed to addressing the intersectional nature of environmental and justice issues.

Lucy Brown's 2024 Falling Walls Engage Winner Project is Refugia.

Refugia’s programme empowers asylum seekers and refugees to engage with environmental science. The initiative co-designed a creative, equitable programme to inspire these communities to protect nature. It aims to build capacity in researchers for innovative public engagement and support the New Art Studio therapeutic art group. Participants and researchers equally share knowledge and skills, focusing on climate change and environmental research within their control.
