Louise McNally is Professor of Linguistics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra, Barcelona. She earned a PhD from the University of California, Santa Cruz, in 1992 and worked at Indiana University before moving to Europe in 1995. She received a Humboldt Research Award in 2017 and is a member of the Academia Europaea. She has served on the Electorate Nominating Committee for the Linguistics and Language Science Section of the AAAS and on the jury for the Spanish National Research Prize in the Humanities, among others. McNally studies the distinctive features of human language that allow us to create and communicate complex meanings. Her collaborators include philosophers and specialists in artificial intelligence for natural language.
