Ent- is an immersive projection exploring the impacts of quantum computing through a perception-based experience. As the only artist in the world working directly with quantum computing & art, Heaney wrote her own code for IBM’s quantum computers to reveal unique signatures of entanglement & used these to create a new visual language only possible with quantum computing, animating hybrid creatures & shifting landscapes, thereby visualizing the invisible processes inside a quantum computer. Heaney writes her own quantum code to animate aspects of the world – hybrid creatures become formless & boundaryless & landscapes shift & breath in a wave-particle/fluid-pixelated aesthetic. The work runs live in Unreal Engine & randomly collapses at different times throughout each loop, mirroring quantum collapse & suggesting less positive outcomes of this new technological development.
