In this roundtable discussion a multidisciplinary group of experts will share their perspectives on how collaborations using state-of-the-art genomic, open science, and imaging technologies are providing new insights into human biology and how these fundamental discoveries will shape tomorrow’s therapies.

Lucy Collinson is an electron microscopist with a background in medical microbiology and cell biology. She has run a series of EM core technology facilities, at University College London and then at Cancer Research UK, which became part of the Francis Crick Institute in 2015. With a team of electron microscopists and physicists, she oversees more than 100 research projects with more than 60 research groups within the Crick, imaging across scales from proteins to whole organisms. Her technology development interests include volume EM, correlative and multimodal imaging, cryo-microscopy, X-ray microscopy, image analysis, citizen science, and microscope design and prototyping.
Sarah Teichmann is the co-founder and co-leader of the international Human Cell Atlas consortium, which uses single cell genomics and spatial methodologies to create a comprehensive high-resolution map of the human body. She is also Head of Cellular Genetics at the Wellcome Sanger Institute, where her research focuses on genomics and immunity. Sarah is an EMBO member and fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and Royal Society, and her work has been recognized by a number of prizes, including the Biochemical Society GlaxoSmithKline Prize, Royal Society Crick Lecture and EMBO Gold Medal.
Stephen Quake is Head of Science at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative, where he oversees CZI’s science grant programs, technology development, and the CZ Biohub Network. His contributions to science include invention of the biological equivalent of the integrated circuit, development of whole organism cell atlases, and creation of diagnostics that have made medicine safer by replacing invasive biopsies such as amniocentesis with simple blood tests. Steve also holds a faculty position at Stanford University, where he is the Lee Otterson Professor of Bioengineering and Applied Physics. Previously he was the founding co-president of the Chan Zuckerberg Biohub.
Stephani Otte leads the Imaging program at the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative (CZI) and is focused on the creation, dissemination, optimization, and standardization of transformative imaging technologies. Prior to CZI, Stephani was Director of Science at a neurotechnology/microscopy company, Inscopix. She received her PhD in neuroscience at the University of California, San Diego, and did postdoctoral fellowships in systems neuroscience at the Salk Institute and University of California, Berkeley.
