Unleashing the Potential of AI in Education: Shaping Tomorrow’s Learning – Falling Walls Circle Round Table 2023

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly permeating education, with intelligent tutorial systems and chatbots influencing the way we learn and process knowledge. While navigating the new technologies, we have to comprehend the implications AI will have on the future of work and the educational system. This table will address the possible impact of data-driven and algorithm-based knowledge, evaluation, and application and discuss how we can equip the next generation to manage the opportunities and threats of AI use.

Diana Knodel

Diana Knodel is the founder and CEO of fobizz, Germany’s largest online training platform for teachers and schools. With a wide range of digital tools and artificial intelligence solutions, fobizz enhances the learning experience and supports schools in their digital transformation. Diana’s passion for education drives her mission to bring digital skills into the classroom. Her contributions have earned her recognition as one of the top 25 women shaping the country’s digital landscape. In 2019, she received the prestigious Hamburg Honorary Award for Special Commitment from the Hamburg Senate.

Katharina Scheiter

University of Potsdam

Katharina Scheiter is professor in Digital Education at the University of Potsdam since May 2022. She investigates how educational technology can best support students’ achievement and how teachers can be aided in integrating technology into their classrooms with a recent focus on adaptive (AI-based) educational technologies. Moreover, she promotes the translation of scientific knowledge into educational practice. In 2023, she assumed leadership of a large consortium of universities and research institutions funded by the Federal Ministry of Education with a focus on advancing teacher professional development in the digital age (Kompetenzverbund lernen:digital).

Gergana Vladova

Weizenbaum-Institut

Gergana Vladova is head of the research group “Education for the Digital World” at the Weizenbaum Institute in Berlin and at the Chair of Business Informatics at the University of Potsdam. She has an interdisciplinary background, with degrees from the University of National and World Economy in Sofia (Bulgaria) and the Freie Universität in Berlin, and a PhD in Business Informatics from the University of Potsdam.Her research experience and interests come from various research projects, particularly on learning with digital technologies and AI, competence development in the context of digitalization, and knowledge and innovation management. She gives lectures and seminars at the University of Potsdam and is a guest lecturer at the BSP Business School Berlin. During her research stay at Stellenbosch University, and at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and in close cooperation with these partner institutions, she was and is actively involved in international and interdisciplinary research projects.

Niels Pinkwart

Vice President for Academic Affairs

Niels Pinkwart is Vice President for Academic Affairs at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. He studied Computer Science and Mathematics at the University of Duisburg. Here, he also completed his PhD studies. After a post-doctoral researcher position at Carnegie Mellon University and Assistant/Associate Professor positions at Clausthal University of Technology, he moved to Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin in 2013 where he heads the research group “Computer Science Education / Computer Science and Society”. In addition to his activities at HU Berlin, Prof. Pinkwart acts as Scientific Director of the Educational Technology Lab at DFKI Berlin.

Matthias Graf von Kielmansegg

Vodafone Stiftung Deutschland

Managing Director of Vodafone Foundation Germany. Foundation activities focus on improving schools and fostering 21st century skills. Former Director General for Innovation Strategies and Digital Change in the Federal Ministry of Education and Research; Head of Policy Planning Staff in the Federal Chancellery. Studied law and history at the universities of Freiburg, Bonn and Göttingen.
