Matej Badin’s method can quantify the metastability of emerging phases induced by pressure, thus opening the route towards the synthesis of materials hosting exotic properties by means of pressure quenching.

Quantifying Metastability: Breaking the Wall of Transformation Barriers
Matej has just begun his 3nd year of PhD at SISSA, Trieste, Italy & Comenius University in Bratislava, Slovakia. In his doctorate, he focuses in the development and application of simulation-based methods to the study of the 1st order phase transition between two solid phases. Matej obtained a bachelor’s degree in Physics in 2017 and a master’s degree in Theoretical Physics from Comenius University in Bratislava in 2019. During his undergraduate studies he helped in two STEP-oriented NGOs aimed to high-school students.
