The nominating institution TUM on the project:

Novel anti-bacterial drugs are needed to treat multiresistant pathogens. Our research focuses on expanding the scope via compounds with novel mechanisms of action. A major breakthrough represents the discovery of a new type of antibiotic overcoming several previous limitations. The molecule addresses unprecedented targets, exhibits high potency and lacks resistance development.

Stephan Sieber

Technical University of Munich

Stephan Sieber studied chemistry in Marburg, Germany and Birmingham, England. He did his graduate studies at the University of Marburg and Harvard Medical School. In 2009, he was appointed professor at the Technical University of Munich. Sieber’s research focus is chemical biology, with emphasis on the identification of novel antibiotics active against multiresistant bacteria. .
