While digital media offer the opportunity for people of all walks of life to gain access to essential information, digital literacy is a necessary component of achieving an informed citizenry. From public health info to active political engagement, knowing how to find and interpret reliable information online is essential. While efforts to provide digital access are a precondition to connecting people, they need to be coupled with efforts to support people’s literacy in using digital tools.
