The nominating institution Chinese University of Hong Kong on the breakthrough:

International student exchange is key to nurture future global citizens. Recent travel restrictions due to COVID-19 have stopped such activities worldwide. Taking advantage of recent, accelerated use of digital technology in higher education, the APRU Virtual Student Exchange (VSE) program provides students from members of the Association of Pacific Rim Universities an innovative platform to acquire knowledge, prepare for global leadership, engage in cultural exchange, and form global networks. The VSE is a comprehensive program consisting of academic courses, a multi-dimensional cultural immersion program, and opportunities to form communities. We aim to reproduce digitally an experience that is just as, if not even more dynamic, integrated, and interactive than actual physical exchange.

Rocky S. Tuan

The Chinese University of Hong Kong

Prof. Rocky Tuan is a world-renowned biomedical scientist specializing in stem cell science and regenerative medicine whose work covers both basic science and engineering, as well as translational and clinical applications. He received a PhD in Life Sciences from Rockefeller University in 1977, and has authored nearly 500 research publications. He held various academic and administrative positions at the University of Pittsburgh and other renowned universities and research leadership position at the National Institutes of Health in the US before he assumed the presidency of CUHK in 2018.
