Our project used a participatory approach to produce a virtual reality tour of our Programme research laboratories. Upon production of the video, it was loaded unto virtual reality headsets and piloted in three-day secondary schools within Kilifi county: Chasimba Secondary School, Katanga Ngala Secondary School and Mdzongoloni Secondary Schools. The feedback we received from students was used to refine the video. We hope to showcase the video to more students once we resume normalcy from COVID.

Patience Kiyuka

KEMRI-Wellcome Trust Research Programme

Dr. Patience Kiyuka is a Postdoctoral Research Scientists at the KEMRI Wellcome Trust Research Programme, Kilifi, Kenya. Her research interest includes epidemiology, immunology, and host-pathogen interactions. Dr.  Kiyuka is deeply passionate about public engagement; always intrigued as to how we can make science accessible and understood by the general public. Her current project is using virtual reality technology to give high school students a virtual tour of their research centre, to spur the students interest in science.
