Elias Barbosa is addressing neglected tropical diseases, affecting over a billion people and leaving chronic sequelae, by developing experimental models for leishmaniasis and Hansen’s disease using induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). The project aims to accelerate the development of regenerative therapies to address both the diseases and their chronic sequelae, using skin organoids from iPSCs for drug testing and promoting skin regeneration in patients.
