The nominating institution UZH on the breakthrough:

Human reproduction developed from a matter of chance to a matter of choice to a matter of design. Latest developments suggest that CRISPR technology will usher in a new era of technologically mediated reproduction. The work examines the interrelation and interaction between normative and empirical dimensions of modern human reproduction. It situates science and technological advances in the context of values and norms and it reconsiders the central concept of reproductive autonomy.

Andrea Büchler

Faculty of Law, University of Zurich

Andrea Büchler is a professor at the Law Faculty of the University of Zurich. From 2009 to 2016 she was a fellow at the Collegium Helveticum. She researches and teaches on family and medical law and is President of the National Ethics Commission in the field of human medicine in Switzerland.
