Paulius Viskaitis is addressing the limitations in stroke rehabilitation by developing SmartVNS, an automated neurostimulation tool. SmartVNS activates the auricular Vagus nerve with small electric pulses, enhancing recovery by reorganising the brain, and it is specifically triggered when desired movement patterns are detected through a smartwatch worn on the affected limb, providing a clinically effective and scalable solution for stroke rehabilitation.

Emerging Talents
Paulius Viskaitis, Pioneer Fellow at ETH Zurich and Co-Founder of Skaaltec, embraces the philosophy of ‘mens sana in corpore sano’ (healthy mind in a healthy body), i.e. the implication that physical exercise and mobility not only improve the condition of the body but also improve the performance of the brain and general well-being. As a neuroscientist, Stroke Rehab Innovator, and fitness enthusiast, he is driven by this principle in his mission to revolutionise neurorehabilitation through cutting-edge science and technology.
