The nominating institution Australian National University on the project:

Cyber-physical systems will revolutionise our world. Who will build them? Who will make sure they reflect all our humanity and values? We need a new discipline – and the practitioners to go with it – to challenge conventional thinking, to open up new kinds of expertise and bridge the gaps between existing ones, and to make room for voices who were previously excluded. The Master of Applied Cybernetics is an experiment in education, teaching a new branch of engineering into existence and shaping a different set of conversations about people and technology. Together the teachers and students are prototyping and breaking down the walls of traditional education by using head, heart and hands to build the skills and knowledge we need to help shape the future safely, sustainably and responsibly.
