Ivana Domljanovic is addressing the limitations of mammography screenings for breast cancer by inventing a DNA origami nanosensor for rapid, accurate, safe, and cost-effective screening and monitoring. The technology focuses on detecting breast cancer in its early stages by measuring circulating miRNA biomarkers, with the potential to advance molecular diagnostics and extend its application to detect other cancers or diseases in the future.

Ivana Domljanovic
Ivana Domljanovic is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Fribourg. She received her BS at Valdosta State University, her MS in medical chemistry at the University of Southern Denmark, and her PhD in medical science from the University of Fribourg. Ivana was awarded the Swiss Nanotechnology PhD Award for the invention of novel DNA origami biosensor. Using her patented biosensor, she is working to develop a rapid blood test for breast cancer detection, which she plans to develop into a commercial product through her spin-off company at the University of Fribourg.
