Resilient digital education futures are often assumed to be driven by the imaginaries of AI, personalisation and automation, but are in fact far more dependent on the creativity and conviction of faculty and students. This project showed how research can help university communities develop their own visions for the future of education, based on shared values rather than techno-determinism. It did the groundwork for a new kind of digital education post COVID-19.

Sian Bayne is Professor of Digital Education, Assistant Principal for Digital Education at The University of Edinburgh and Director of Education at the Edinburgh Futures Institute. She directs the Centre for Research in Digital Education, where she researches higher education futures, interdisciplinary approaches to researching digital education and digital pedagogy. Sian gives regular keynotes on the future of digital education, publishes widely and has led and contributed to projects funded by UKRI, Erasmus+, AdvanceHE and NESTA.
