The German language is known for long words with many consonants. This makes many learners consider German an impossible language to learn let alone pronounce. How can we use our mobile phone to overcome the challenges of learning German? Through the use of artificial intelligence, participants of this project can improve oral skills and expand vocabulary by performing gamified tasks and receiving digital feedback from a chatbot, their peers and tutors.

Gabriela Marques-Schäfer

University of the State of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ)

Gabriela Marques-Schäfer is associate professor of German Language at Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro and president of the Brazilian-German Network for the Internationalization of Higher Education. She has 20 years language teaching experience and an incessant pursuit of creativity and innovation. Her teaching and research interests include second language acquisition, new media and online gaming. She currently works on a variety of projects that examine digital language learning with chatbots and games.
