Diego Calzada Fraile is addressing the challenge of enhancing immune responses to fight infection and improve vaccination. His proposed solution involves exploiting the communication between lymphocytes and dendritic cells, revealing that the interaction activates immune responses and provides novel functions that can be harnessed for therapeutic purposes.

Diego Calzada Fraile
Diego graduated with a BSc in biochemistry from The Autonomous University of Madrid. He then began a MSc in leading international vaccinology education with an Erasmus+ Mundus scholarship awarded by the European Commission. During this time, he studied at the University of Barcelona, Antwerp, Lyon, and Saint-Étienne. There, he was trained in vaccine science, public health, communication, immunology, infectiology, epidemiology, and European languages. Later, he returned to Spain where he joined Francisco Sánchez-Madrid’s group focusing on how to harness the communication between immune cells to improve and design novel immunisation approaches. He completed his PhD in 2023.
