The nominating institution CAU Kiel on the breakthrough:

The project aims to make use of crowd dynamics and the phenomenon of self-mobilizing masses in educational contexts. We conduct our research in educational settings and innovative learning environments that are designed to transcend conventional classroom or distant learning settings towards participatory, engaging and fast paced forms of interaction. This entails an innovative, future-oriented prospect for research and development in higher education as well as the development of advanced digital technologies. Towards the end, we envision students to collectively discuss, seed, and cultivate new forms of social interaction and engagement in order to address global challenges like sustainable development and educational justice.

Christine Bussian earned her master’s degree in pedagogics and English studies after graduating from the University of Kiel in 2018. In October 2018 she joined the department of media-pedagogy and educational computer sciences at Kiel University as a researcher for the sub-project »SCoRe – Learning and Research in the Crowd« which is part of the joint project »SCoRe – Student Crowd Research«, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
