Through an installation/performance the artist Maja Smrekar reflects on the social dimension of Artificial Intelligence, questioning the power relations in terms of technological development and data sovereignty, and how these affect the relations between human and animals. “Technologies such as AI need a social dimension and not only the economy, but above all civil society should have a say in what we want to use these systems for” M. Smrekar.
Maja Smrekar was born 1978 in Slovenia. She graduated at the Sculpture Department of Fine Art and Design Academy in collaboration with the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television in Ljubljana, Slovenia, and holds Master of Arts in Video and New Media.
Her work has been established in the international art and science milieu by interdisciplinarily researching ideological structures in society. Grounded in sculpture, her practice has allowed her to lead collaborations in developing cross-conceptual productions that include performances, installations, site specific art, drawings, videos, sound, as well as contributions to knowledge exchanged within lectures, talks and texts.
