Aerogels are a class of solid materials with outstanding properties, a consequence of their open porous 3D nanostructure. They demonstrate promising results for pollution filtering and lightweight vehicle insulation, as well as for advanced battery systems in sustainable mobility. With the support of simulation and digitization for reverse engineering, the development of upscaling technology for industrial production is being accelerated, thus closing the gap from research to commercialization.

Breaking the Wall of Aerogels in Mobility
Barbara Milow
Physical Sciences
Prof. Dr. Barbara Milow deals with the synthesis of highly porous, open-pored and nano-structured materials, the so-called aerogels at the DLR.
