During COVID-19, artists in Ireland had their pipeline of work instantly dry up. We launched a round of experimental virtual residencies available for makers, creators, writers, artists and designers to collaborate with scientists over five weeks. For this virtual residency, each ‘resident’ got €1000 and was paired with two advisors. We sought out proposals that investigated art and technology, science and society issues, local community, curiosity, and issues concerning young adults.

Ian Brunswick is Head of Strategic Academic Engagement at Science Gallery Dublin, and was previously the first Futures Curator at the Smithsonian Institution. At Science Gallery Ian spearheaded a community-oriented approach and has overseen the development of numerous internationally-touring exhibitions including ILLUSION, DESIGN AND VIOLENCE, IN CASE OF EMERGENCY and SECRET. Ian has an MSc in Science Communication and sits on the board of directors of the Irish Museums Association.
