The nominating institution WZB Berlin Social Science Center on the breakthrough:

COVID-19 has profound consequences for gender equality. Hipp and Allmendinger were the first ones to put this finding on the agenda of the nation’s public discourse. Various studies are now being undertaken to look into a possible re-traditionalisation. Hipp’s earlier work already revealed consistent disadvantages for women: e.g., mothers had to write a third more applications to be invited to a job interview. A broad discussion on necessary policies, such as gender-budgeting, is needed.
