A platform for high-quality journal-independent peer-review in the life sciences.

Review Commons was created by EMBO and ASAPbio to provide expert peer review of preprints before they are submitted to a journal. The process is handled by professional scientific editors, who ensure that reviewers are qualified and have no conflicts of interest. Manuscripts, together with their reviews and the authors’ responses, can immediately be publicly posted to become “refereed preprints”.

Authors can submit the refereed preprint to one of the 17 affiliated journals; if the first submission is not successful, the authors can move on to another journal without reinitiating the peer review process.

RevCom thus

– uncouples reviewer evaluation from editorial selection at journals, focusing refereeing on the scientific quality and significance of research findings

– accelerates the access to refereed scientific findings

Through refereed preprints Review Commons transforms scientific communication towards greater efficiency and transparency while maintaining scientific rigor.
