To attain the full potential promised by quantum technologies, joint efforts to cross borders between countries, continents, science and industry is an absolute necessity. In this Round Table talk, the status, future development and the applications of quantum technologies will be discussed with scientists, managers and international officials.

Prof. Dr. Tommaso Calarco has pioneered the application of quantum optimal control methods to quantum computation and to many-body quantum systems. Currently the Director of the Institute for Quantum Control of the Peter Grünberg Institute at Forschungszentrum Jülich and Professor of Quantum Information at the Institute of Theoretical Physics of the University of Cologne, Tommaso received his PhD at the University of Ferrara and started to work as a postdoc in the group of P. Zoller at the University of Innsbruck. He was appointed as a Senior Researcher at the BEC Centre in Trento in 2004 and as a Professor for Physics at the University of Ulm in 2007, where he then became Director of the Institute for Complex Quantum Systems and of the Centre for Integrated Quantum Science and Technology. He has authored in 2016 the Quantum Manifesto, which initiated the European Commission’s Quantum Flagship initiative, and is currently the Chairman of one of the Flagship’s Governing Bodies: The Quantum Community Network (QCN). In 2020, together with the QCN, he has launched an initiative towards the creation of a consortium of European quantum industries, which has been legally established in 2021 under the name of European Quantum Industry Consortium (QuIC).
Corey Stambaugh is the Senior Policy Advisor and Industrial Liaison for the National Quantum Coordination Office at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy where he leads activities around education and workforce development, and industrial and international engagement for QIS. He is currently on detail from the National Institute of Standards and Technology where he is a staff physicist in the Quantum Measurement Division. He earned a Ph.D. in physics from the University of Florida and a B.Sc. in physics with a minor in Computer Science from the Ohio State University. Corey has co-authored more than 40 papers on a variety of topics focused around precision measurement, micro-fabricated devices, and mass metrology. As a NSF International Postdoctoral Fellow, he carried out research at Seoul National University in South Korea. Corey is a past NIST-NRC Postdoctoral Research Associate and recipient of the NIST Allen V. Astin Measurement Science Award. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Physics at Montgomery College.
Professor Ian Walmsley FRS is a prominent physicist known for his contributions to the field of quantum optics and quantum technologies.
He currently serves as the Provost of Imperial College London, where he has played a key role in advancing research and education in science, engineering, medicine and business.
He is also Chair of Experimental Physics at Imperial and is the chair and co-founder of ORCA Computing.
Professor Walmsley graduated from Imperial College London with first-class honours in physics in 1980 and completed his PhD at the University of Rochester.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Society, the American Physical Society, the Institute of Physics and Optica; of which he was elected President in 2018.
Dr. Michael Bolle has PhD in engineering and has held executive positions at Bosch since 1992 – taking a break from 1999 through 2002 to establish a high-tech startup. Most recently he was a Member of the Management Board of Robert Bosch GmbH, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), and Chief Digital Officer (CDO). During his time at Bosch, Dr. Bolle was the driving force behind the creation of the Bosch Center for Artificial Intelligence and helped to link up the Internet of Things with artificial intelligence (AIoT).
As Chairman of the Shareholder Council of the Carl-Zeiss Foundation, he acts as a link between the foundation and foundations companies ZEISS & SCHOTT and represents the economic interests of the Carl Zeiss Foundation towards the foundation companies.
Michael Bolle has a strong interest in innovation and technologies and therefore contributed for several years to the full of quantum technologies. He currently serves as a speaker on the program committee of quantum-systems of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research.
Sebastian Luber holds a PhD in physics and is Senior Director for Technology and Innovation at Infineon Technologies. He defines and leads cross-divisional methodology and leadership programs, and is responsible for the field of quantum technologies at Infineon. In this role, Luber has been involved in several external committees, including the German government’s expert council for quantum computing. Prior to this, he held various positions within the company. Among others, Luber was Technology Line Manager for MEMS sensors, head of cross-site research and development teams for automotive sensor technologies, and program manager for pressure sensors.
