Gozde Unal has been an influential academic in AI and data science involving both scientific methodology development and uses across a multitude of disciplines including manufacturing, design, medical imaging, and autonomous systems. As a founding Full Professor of Department of Artificial Intelligence and Data Engineering at Istanbul Technical University, and the founding director of ITU AI Research Center (2018-2020), Gozde is commited to advancement of the AI knowledge and human capacity both at local and global levels of the society and across various sectors. Her research interests are in machine learning, with a focus on representation learning, continual learning and uncertainty, for ensuring reliability of safety-critical systems. Gozde Unal received her PhD in ECE with a minor in Mathematics from North Carolina State University, NC, USA. She worked as a research scientist at Siemens Corporate Research, Princeton, NJ, USA, also as a visiting scientist at HP Labs, Palo Alto, CA, and Xerox Labs, Rochester, NY, USA. She was the recipient of L’Oreal Turkey’s Female Scientist Award in 2010 in Life Sciences. She was one of the founding executives of the Women in MICCAI committee in 2016. Dr. Unal was awarded the Marie Curie Alumni Association (MCAA) Career Award of European Commission in March, 2017.  She was also the founding Chair of the MCAA Turkey Chapter. She holds more than 30 USPTO and EPO patents.
