Sabine Rockenstein is a master’s student in physics at the University of Hamburg and at the Center for Free-Electron Laser Science, DESY. Her research focuses on the development of a new light source that emits ultrashort laser pulses with very short wavelengths that can be used to observe molecules on their natural time- and length scale. Investigation of this light-activated dynamics of matter with extreme time resolution will make it possible to understand the motion of electrons inside of systems – in particular inside of biologically relevant molecules – better and to eventually control it.
