Jury: Physical Sciences

Suchitra Sebastian is University Reader in Physics at the University of Cambridge. Her research is in the area of novel materials and their unconventional properties, particularly the exotic phenomenon of superconductivity. Suchitra is the recipient of awards including a L’Oreal-UNESCO Fellowship, the Lee Osheroff Richardson North American Science prize, the International Young Scientist Medal in Magnetism, and the Moseley Medal. She has been recognised as a ‘next big name’ in physics by the Financial Times, and an outstanding young scientist by the World Economic Forum. Suchitra holds an MS and PhD in Applied Physics from Stanford University, and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Amedabad. Suchitra participates in scientific research solely for non-imperialistic, non-militaristic purposes.

The Falling Walls Breakthroughs of the Year will highlight breakthrough thinking from around the world in 10 categories, ranging from Life Sciences to Science Engagement. Counting more than 100 jurors, each breakthrough will be determined by a distinguished world-class Jury under the leadership of renowned experts in their respective fields.

We are delighted that Helga Nowotny, fmr. President of the European Research Council, will serve as the Chair of the Juries, presiding over the selection process at large.
