Controlling the spread of COVID-19 is an urgent global challenge. Airborne respiratory droplets play a significant role in human-to-human transmission. Jing’s group quantifies the infection risk of COVID-19 by various transmission routes. He then develops highly accurate sensors for fast detection in the air, evaluates protection efficiencies of masks and respirators, and assesses regeneration methods.

Empa

Jing Wang is an associate professor in the Institute of Environmental Engineering at ETH Zurich (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich), leading the group of Air Quality and Particle Technology. He is also a group leader at Empa (Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology). His main research interests are air quality, environmental and health impact of airborne pollutants, airborne nanoparticle measurement and emission control, air and water filtration. He is currently an editor for Aerosol Science and Technology.
