Dr. Rapp pushed boundaries in glass production since he is able to print glass. This disruptive innovation in glass processing has more than one astonishing advantage, such as low production cost, scales up to mass manufacturing with existing machines and most limitless freedom of design. Liquid glass is the main ingredient of his Innovation. It is a plastic fluid full of tiny glass that solidifies when exposed to light. The liquid works with standard 3D printers to create any structure.

Bastian Rapp

NeptunLab - Albert-Ludwigs University of Freiburg

Bastian E. Rapp studied mechanical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe and finished his PhD at the same university in 2008 working on biosensors for biomedical diagnostics. He is a Principal Investigator and head of NeptunLab at the Institute of Microstructure Technology of the University of Freiburg. In 2017 he finished his “Habilitation” with the publication of a textbook on fluid dynamics in microfluidics. His research focuses on the development of novel materials, processes and applications in microsystem engineering, life sciences and biotechnology as well as instrumental and clinical analytics.
